Unit 1 - Fish Blood Constituents
Erythrocytes - Occurrence

Back to Erythrocytes

Erythrocytes are the predominant blood cell type in fish.

There is considerable variation in numbers in different species of fish. There may also be variation within species, depending on health status.

For example, in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), erythrocyte count may vary from 0.77 to 1.58 x 106 cells /mm3.
