Unit 1 - Fish Blood Constituents
Thrombocytes - Function

Back to Thrombocytes

Thrombocytes play a part in the clotting of blood . Their activities during clotting have been observed in vitro.

Phagocytosis(HT6.2)has also been reported in thrombocytes, but this is not thought to be true phagocytosis, since particles are not engulfed completely by the cell.

Definitions

PHAGOCYTOSIS: The intracellular uptake of solid particles by cells, either for nutritional purposes  (e.g. food), or in the case of phagocytes such as macrophages and granulocytes as a defence mechanism (foreign bodies).
