Introduction

        This module has been designed as an online distance learning unit, which may be freely accessed at any time through the ONEDIN project web pages. There are no tasks,assignments or assessements provided online.These will be given by the tutors in each partner college.The module can be used at entry level for first-time students, as a vocational module for decision-makers or as a life-long learning unit for re-training purposes.

        Aims of the course

        • to provide basic knowledge on the marine environment for those entering this field of study for the first time
        • to provide basic knowledge on the marine environment for those whose profession requires them to take decisions relating to, or having an effect on, these basic parameters
        • to provide an overview/retraining in the marine environment for educators engaged in environmental studies at varying levels.

        How the course is arranged

        The text-based course content is arranged in 6 sections called chapters which cover the subject base comprehensively. The course may be studied following the order in which it is presented. Alternatively, since each section is programmed as a stand-alone unit, it may be entered at any point preferred by the user.
        A comprehensive glossary of terms is provided which can be called up immediately by hot text (blue).
        Many useful web-sites links (green) are also included so that users can actively continue the information-building process.
