Projects
Members of the Marine Ecology Laboratory staff and students have been involved in the field work for a number of international projects over the years. For instance, the NATO Science for Stability programme FISHECO (1986 - 1991) not only acted as a catalyst in providing funding for almost all the first post-graduate Marine Ecology students in the Department of Biology, but also funded a large part of the infrastructure needed to carry out the project's investigations into the food chains, with special emphasis on the productivity of coastal ecosystems, ecological and physical aspects of littoral organisms in relation to the ecology and zoogeography of these organisms, and also the structure and productivity of the deep Aegean ecosystems.
EU Marine Science & Technology (MAST) projects also involved the Marine Ecology staff and students, working with the Institute of Marine Biology of Crete. Abstracts of the papers produced as a result of these projects may be accessed on this website. Two videos have been produced, in English and Greek versions, which may be obtained from the IMBC.
