To determine, in sulphide and methane-rich ecosystems

  • the biological, physical and chemical characteristics
  • the role of the biota in major geochemical fluxes
  • the role of chemoautotrophic and methylotrophic bacteria
  • the adaptations enabling eukaryotes to live in sulphidic environments
  • the relationship between methane venting, and sulphide and metal concentrations, and to relate these to the fauna distribution
  • to compare the inter-relationships of symbiotic bacteria in the animals inhabitants, by comparing their nucleic acids.
